Televison Release: February 28, 2001 (CBS)Intelligent dialogue and impressive cinematography define Nora Roberts' Sanctuary, a psychological thriller based on the best-selling novel by Nora Roberts. Jo Ellen Hathaway (Melissa Gilbert) is an acclaimed photojournalist plagued by an email stalker who sends her photographs he has taken of her. Hathaway also has frightening dreams in which her mother repeatedly appears. Jo's mother abandoned her when she was a child, and along with her angry brother, Brian (Chris Martin), and her distant father, Sam (Kenneth Welsh), she has unresolved issues about her mother. In an effort to escape her stalker and find some answers to her own damaged psyche, Jo returns home to the idyllic island where her family runs an inn with her loving aunt, Kate (Kathy Bates). Shortly after her arrival, her childhood sweetheart, Nathan (Costas Mandylor), arrives, offering possible answers to many of Jo's questions. At the same time, however, Jo's friend, Ginny (Robin Brule), disappears one night after a beach party when the two women are walking along the same path. Using still photography and dream sequences to provide clues to the story, and insights into Jo's mind, Sanctuary creates an eerie ensemble piece that comes to an exciting climax when a hurricane blows unexpectedly onto the island.
