Description:

 Add Overlay displays the Overlay Types dialog allowing you to add a new overlay.

The Overlay Types dialog shows all available overlay types grouped under six tabs:

Files

Databases

OGC

Ordnance Survey (GB)

Web

Miscellaneous

Recently used (shown when overlay selections have been made)

Files:

The Overlay Types dialog opens to show the overlays available under the Files overlay group.

 File

A dataset read from a file on disk.

The SIS Workspace Definition (SWD) stores a link to the dataset. If the dataset is modified, then all SWDs with links will reflect the changes.

 Create new file

An editable dataset file in various formats. The dataset file can be shared by many users, and linked to many SIS Workspace Definitions.

Some formats only allow one user at a time to edit the file (file-level locking), others allow multiple users to edit (item-level locking).

 Imported File

A dataset imported from a file on disk.

The contents of an imported dataset are copied into the SIS Workspace Definition, so they can be edited without affecting the original file.

 Cadcorp Index Dataset

A dataset that tiles together lots of other dataset files in a rectangular grid, to make a continuous map base.

Index Datasets can use multiple directories and/or multiple file formats.

 Cadcorp Raster Index

Indexes all of the raster files in a folder, optionally checking all child directories.

The index can be imported, for faster re-opening.

 Microsoft SQL Server Spatial Dataset

An editable dataset that stores items in a Microsoft SQL Server Spatial database, using the planar geometry type.

This allows SIS to interoperate with other software that supports the Microsoft SQL Server Spatial database planar geometry type.

 PostGIS

An editable dataset that stores items in a PostGIS-enabled database, using the PostGIS spatial schema.

This allows SIS to interoperate with other software that supports the PostGIS spatial schema.

Loads raster data from a PostGIS Raster database.

 Oracle Spatial

An editable dataset that stores items in an Oracle 9i, or later, Spatial database, using the Oracle Object-Relational schema.

This allows SIS to interoperate with other software that supports the Oracle Spatial Object-Relational schema.

 Oracle Network Model

Loads Oracle 10g, or later, Network Model data into a SIS Link-Node topological network.

 Oracle GeoRaster

Loads raster data from an Oracle 10g, or later, GeoRaster database.

 Cadcorp View Points

A read-only view of a database table that has columns that specify X, Y and Z coordinates.

Each row will be represented as a Point item, with attributes from other columns in the table.

 Cadcorp View Geometry

A read-only view of a database table that has a column of item geometry, stored as Binary Large Objects (BLOBs). SIS can use various formats for the BLOBs, including the OGC standards. Each row with a valid BLOB will be an item within the dataset, with attributes from other columns in the table.

OGC:

 OGC WMS

Acts as an OGC Web Map Service (WMS) client, downloading raster images over the Internet from an OGC WMS.

You can configure the connection to the WMS, e.g. Layers to draw, image format to use.

Acts as an OGC Web Feature Service (WFS) client, downloading vector geometry over the Internet from an OGC WFS.

Acts as an OGC Web Coverage Service (WCS) client, downloading coverage data over the Internet from an OGC WCS.

 OGC OWS Context Document

Opens an OGC Web Services (OWS) or Web Map (WMC) Context document. An OWS Context document contains references to one or more OGC Web Services, e.g. WMS, WFS, etc.

The document can be either a local (LAN) file or accessed via an HTTP URL.

 OGC WMS Context Document

Opens an OGC Web Map Context (WMC) document. A WMC document contains references to one or more OGC Web Map Service layers.

Opens an OGC Geography Markup Language (GML) document.

 OGC CS-W

Acts as an OGC Catalogue Services for the Web (CS-W) client, querying available OGC services over the Internet from an OGC CS-W service.

You can configure the connection to the CS-W service, e.g. keywords to search for, type of service required, area of interest, etc.

 CD-ROM

An Index Dataset automatically created from Ordnance Survey (GB) Land-Line data stored on a CD-ROM, or other mass storage device.

The Land-Line data is supplied in directories that represent 10km x 10km National Grid tiles, and can be 1:1250 and/or 1:2500.

 Meridian 2

Open Street Map

Connects to the OpenStreetMap database via the RESTful API, and downloads data with the current extents.

The maximum extents allowed is one fifth of a degree in longitude and latitude. Note that the OpenStreetMap server may also impose other load-based limits.

Cadcorp Internal Dataset

Use this option to create a new internal dataset.

Internal datasets are user datasets which are stored within the SWD, they do not exist as separate files and cannot be used in other SWDs or accessed by other users. They are often used for data of a temporary or personal nature.

Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL)

Loads data via the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL).

GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats that is released under an Open Source license. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats.

NGA Digital Nautical Chart (DNC)

Loads Digital Nautical Chart (DNC) data.

The Digital Nautical Chart® is produced by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and is an unclassified, vector-based, digital database containing maritime significant features essential for safe marine navigation.

NGA Vector Map Level 0/1

Loads Vector Map (VMAP) Level 0 or Level 1 data.

The VMap Level 0 database provides worldwide coverage of vector-based geospatial data which can be viewed at 1:1,000,000 scale.
